The Coppergate Helmet is a well-detailed reconstruction of an 8th century original from an excavation of York, in 1982. Made from 14-gauge steel, this fully wearable helmet has a rounded head piece with cheek plates on the side.
There is a brass reinforcing strip along the center. It matches the brass trim along the eyebrows and the highly detailed nasal guard. A knotwork design adorns the nasal guard. Brass edging lines the cheek guards as well.
Hanging down from the back is a section of chainmail. This consists of 9-millimeter round rings woven into a 4-in-1 pattern. A 4-in-1 pattern is four rings woven into another ring. These rings have a butted construction. The chainmail back connects to the helmet and cheek guards with brass rings.
You can wear this helmet to your next historical reenactment or Renaissance faire. It looks great on display as well.
Please note that the helmet stand shown above does not come included.
